Learn Sustainable Trail Building Tips at Pen Park

The Friends of Peninsula State Park and the International Mountain Biking Association will present a two-day workshop on sustainable trail building and the economic impact of purpose-built trail systems.

The Friends of Peninsula State Park, in partnership with the International Mountain Biking Association, are providing two opportunities to learn about sustainable trail building practices and the economic impact of recreational trail systems.

This first opportunity will be a presentation by the International Mountain Biking Association Trail Care Crew on the economic impact of sustainable and purpose-built trails. With sponsorship from Birchwood Lodge, this presentation takes place July 22, 9 am to noon, in the Birchwood Lodge Large Conference Room. Representatives from the Wisconsin DNR and Department of Tourism will be in attendance. This is a free event; no registration is required. Refreshments will be provided.

The second event is set for July 23, 8 am to 4 pm, at Peninsula State Park. The Trail Care Crew will provide classroom and on-site training for individuals interested in learning how to build and maintain sustainable trail systems. This is a free event but registration is required. Participants will work on a section of trail in Peninsula State Park. Lunch will be provided. Register online at peninsulafriends.org.

Peninsula State Park and Door County provides some of the most diverse terrain throughout the Midwest. Well-built trail systems are one of the many opportunities to grow and attract visitors to experience the unique landscape and the Friends have worked with the International Mountain Biking Association to identify an approach to developing and maintaining sustainable trail systems that will protect our natural habitat while allowing visitors to enjoy, explore and experience this destination.
