Letter to the Editor: Addressing Gun Violence in America

The NRA and gun restriction advocates don’t agree on much, but they do agree that increasing funding for mental health programs in America would go a long way in reducing gun violence. Most of my gun-owning friends say that guns are a good investment; they rarely go down and often go up in value. I propose placing a state tax on gun sales to fund a mental health program increase, the amount to be determined by the legislature. There can be matching state funds so gun owners are not shouldering the cost alone.
