Letter to the Editor: We Can Survive

I am troubled by the tone of the letters I’ve been reading in the Pulse. It appears that there is a considerable amount of angst due to the fact that Donald Trump was elected president. President Trump.

Yes, he’s been making changes from the Obama administration. How can he do this? Because President Obama used executive orders to make his own changes. Had he used Congress to make these changes President Trump would be unable to change them.

Let’s briefly discuss some of President Obama’s accomplishments.

  1. He sent billions of dollars to Iran. This is based on an agreement which allows Iran to develop nuclear weapons after 10 years. This is not a treaty which would have required Congressional approval.
  2. DACA. This is causing a considerable amount of grief. Had Congress been involved President Trump would be unable to make changes. By the way, most of these individuals are not children anymore.
  3. IRS targeting conservative groups.
  4. ATF [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] selling guns to Mexican cartels. (Fast and Furious.)

President Trump has only been in office for one year.

  1. The biggest contribution in my eyes has been the economy. My 401 plan has increased 17 percent-plus. I am retired so this is important to me.
  2. Another idea I fully support is the idea of border security. This must be done before any talk of amnesty to any group of illegal immigrants. In discussion of illegal immigrants, perhaps we could give the money to support this group to our own citizens that need the assistance.
  3. Korea. The past 24 years have not done anything to prevent North Korea from developing nuclear weapons. Any change in approach should be considered.

Our country has survived eight years of President Clinton, President Bush and President Obama. Surely, we can survive four to eight years of President Trump.
