Letter to the Editor: Door County Not So Dog-Friendly After All?

I must respectfully disagree [with your March 15-22 “Hot Diggity Dog!” article regarding Expedia’s ranking of the county as a top dog-friendly place]. We just recently moved up from Iowa and brought our Bernese Mountain dog with us and have found Door County to be one of the most dog unfriendly places we’ve ever lived. All the parks in Liberty Grove have big signs no dogs. The state parks will not allow dogs on beaches or picnic areas. Even the Ridges does not allow dogs on any of their trails. There are a couple of dog parks but nothing too exciting. You could really help us by publishing a list of places we can take our dogs and trails and parks that are welcoming. There may be lodging that allows dogs but generally we find that they are unwelcome. Door County needs to change some of these policies as most outdoorsy type people have pets and travel with them.
