Letter to the Editor: It Pays to Be a Good Guy

I would like to respond to the letter regarding President Obama purchasing a $15 million, 29-acre estate on Martha’s Vineyard [Nov. 1, 2019, issue]. I, too, am curious how in the world he could afford such a place. I know he was loaded with integrity and a decent, honorable character, but shekels? I don’t think so.

After all, when he was in office, that guy actually cared more about our country than his pocketbook. So where did the big bucks come from?

We all know he didn’t inherit money from a wealthy daddy, and we certainly know he paid his bills because he didn’t go bankrupt numerous times. We also know he paid taxes because he produced his tax records, and I don’t remember hearing he took money out of charities to spend on himself.

And what about Michelle Obama? How much coin could she have possibly earned being the author of the bestselling book in 2018?

Now I may just be spittin’ in the wind, but could the money have come from a $65 million advance the Obamas received to write their memoirs?

I’m sure President Obama’s home is nice, but it’s no Mar-a-Lago – Trump’s property down in scientifically proven hurricane country.

Apparently Mar-a-Lago is under threat from climate change. According to a 2017 report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, rising sea levels are increasingly damaging south Florida coasts.

At least Mar-a-Lago, our winter White House, has no class barriers. For $200,000, deplorables can buy a membership. Oh, yes, there is also a $14,000 yearly fee and the obligation to spend thousands more on food. It has been nice to reflect on President Obama and the hard work he did for all Americans, not just the rich.

It’s too bad our green-eyed monster-in-chief is undoing the good work President Obama put in place. Well, I suppose this will give me the perfect reason to trade in my old Make America Great Again cap for a new one: Vengeance Is Mine.
