Letter to the Editor: Kindness and Honesty of Strangers

Every year we come to Sturgeon Bay to do our Black Friday shopping. This year was no exception. However, what could have been a bad experience turned into a very neat experience thanks to some very special clerks at Younkers.

Whenever we travel, I always put some spending money in a bank envelope to keep it separate from my other money. We were getting ready to go out for the evening, when I noticed my spending money was missing. I looked through everything, but no luck. We went back to Younkers where we last shopped. I asked at the Home Goods store and was told I needed to go to the other store and describe my situation to the manager. The clerk said the manager had my envelope in the safe. My heart was racing as I was a bundle of nerves. I talked to the manager and told him what had happened. He said the clerk, Joyce, found my envelope on the floor and turned it into him. What a lovely and honest woman! I went back to talk to Joyce and I offered her $20 for her good deed. She told me that she couldn’t take it. I gave her a hug and thanked her for making my day. It is so great to know that there are special people out there like Joyce. I tell my story to anyone who will listen, and I thought it would be a good idea to write a letter expressing my heartfelt thanks.
