Letter to the Editor: More than 350 People Served at Community Thanksgiving Dinner

The 37th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner held at the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church was an amazing success feeding more than 350 individuals this year, which was a new record! More than 150 individuals dined at church while another 206 home deliveries and carryout meals were provided. People who were alone, or who had no one to be with on this holiday, enjoyed warm fellowship and a delicious home-cooked meal.

This event, started in 1979, continues to be successful largely due to tremendous community support. We want to thank the nearly 100 volunteers who worked so hard throughout the week to organize, prepare, cook, carve, bake, serve, deliver and clean up. Many are from our church, but many others are from the wider community. An effort of this magnitude requires teamwork, and we continue to be blessed by many willing workers.

A special note of thanks to our anonymous donors and to the following area businesses and organizations that supported our community meal this year: Bank of Luxemburg, Bank Mutual, Forbes Funeral Home, Golden Living Dorchester, Haberli Tree Farm, Hatco Team, Huehns Funeral Home, Jim Olson Motors, Maas Floral and Green House, Nicolet Bank, North Shore Bank, Pick ‘N Save, Roder Farms, Sully’s Produce, Tadych’s Econo Foods, Tanum Forest Lutheran Church, Walmart and the Wine Cellar. It is your continuing generosity that makes this joy-filled event possible!
