Letter to the Editor: Representative Gallagher Goes off the Rails

I am appreciative of Rep. Gallagher’s recent flyer message to his constituents because he has exposed who he is: a radical right-wing conservative!

He is opposed to a woman’s right to have a medically safe abortion, even in the case of rape or incest. He is showing what he stands for.

By the way, federal funding is prohibited by federal law – the Hyde Amendment – to fund abortions. No one is forced to have their tax dollar pay for a procedure they would not support because of their religious beliefs. This law has been in place since 1977 – 45 years!

“Defunding the police” is used only by extreme radical conservatives to create fear and division in our country. Independents, Democrats and Republicans all support the value of supporting our law enforcement so they can protect our communities.

Does Rep. Gallagher actually live with the residents of his district? He seems so out of touch. We all support the police and want them to be well funded. In addition, law enforcement needs additional resources to deal with mental-health, addiction and substance-abuse cases in our communities.

Americans living in Afghanistan who wished to leave were airlifted out by the Biden administration in the largest airlift in American history. Is Rep. Gallagher so unaware of these facts? Is he lying to his constituents for his own political gain?

He gave himself an A+ rating. Were you asked to rate him? Do you support his votes against democracy, against reducing the costs of health care and against the Biden infrastructure bill that will be used in Wisconsin to repair bridges, roads and water pipes, and to expand broadband to rural communities?

Gallagher’s most notorious vote for a tax cut for the wealthiest Americans during the previous presidential administration does not qualify him for an A+ in my book.

We must vote for a different representative during the upcoming election: someone who is more attuned to his or her constituents and who has values that represent the common good and the vast majority of residents of Congressional District 8.
