Letter to the Editor: When is Enough is Enough?

I’m having all sorts of thoughts right now, including some Joni Mitchell lyrics – “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got til it’s gone” – after reading “Two New Drive-Thru Restaurants, Strip Mall Proposed” for Sturgeon Bay in the March 1 Peninsula Pulse.

One of the many things Door County Reads Braiding Sweetgrass has to teach us is reciprocity. Give back, not just take from our natural environment. We are unique for a reason. “They” paved paradise to put up a parking lot. Please don’t be like “them;” there are lots of “thems” out there. Let’s be us. This is not respecting the nature we have. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Also reminds me of the beauty and messages in Ridge and Swale, the [Peninsula Filmworks] documentary of conservation in Door County.

Protect the character of our county.
