Liberty Grove Says No

In a vote that drew one of the largest crowds to a Door County municipal meeting in memory, Town of Liberty Grove voters said a resounding no to a proposal to purchase three shorefront properties in Gills Rock.

The final tally was 268 against to 157 in favor of spending $2.35 million for the properties.

Over 450 people showed up for the special town meeting, which was held in the town’s garage Sept. 8. Gills Rock resident Susie Watson was the only attendee to speak against the motion, but few in the audience appeared to need any convincing.

Liberty Grove voters stand for the Pledge of Allegiance in the town’s garage Wednesday night, Sept. 8.

Subsequent motions to buy one or two of the parcels instead of all three also failed.
