Local Poets Featured in Poetry Calendar

The Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets has released the Wisconsin Poets’ Calendar 2023, edited by Door County’s current poet laureate, Mike Orlock; and Ethel Mortenson Davis and Thomas Davis of Sturgeon Bay.

The poetry organization has published the calendar since 1983 to highlight the work of poets throughout the state and those who have a close connection to Wisconsin. The 2023 edition is available through wfop.org and in Sturgeon Bay at Novel Bay Booksellers, 44 N. 3rd Ave.; and OtherWorlds Books & More, 41 N. 3rd Ave.

This year’s calendar includes abstract pastel art by Ethel Mortenson Davis on the front and back covers and introducing each season. In keeping with the calendar’s theme of Mythos of Wisconsin, it presents poetry that celebrates the traditional or current themes, beliefs and legends that are characteristic of the state.

Door County poets whose work is represented include Orlock, Thomas Davis, Ethel Mortenson Davis, Sharon Auberle, Ralph Murre, Nancy Rafal, Estella Lauter, David Clowers, Hanne Gault, Ann Heyse, Charlotte Johnston, Gary Jones, Paulette Laufer, Lee LeVoy, June Nirschl, Amy Phimister, Judy Roy, and Carrie and Peter Sherrill.
