Make Mother’s Day last all weekend long

This weekend will be the first time my mother and I have been together on Mother’s Day since she became a grandmother. A proper celebration is definitely in order to mark the occasion, so I set out to find some unusual and memorable options for Mother’s Day treats and dining around the county.

Boy, did I find some great ones! Here are just a few to consider from local specialty creators and restaurants to make this Mother’s Day extra special.

Mothers should have more than just one day to celebrate, so why not make the whole weekend about her? Start on Saturday, when Galecktables will have sweet and savory treats available – including rosemary brown-butter almond cookies with rosemary caramel, spicy Mexican cocoa cookies with dulce de leche centers and sea-salted edges, and more – from 11 am until 3 pm at Sister Golden in Fish Creek.

DC Chocolate Design in Fish Creek, has Mother’s Day boxes available this week that are stuffed full of truffles, caramels, seed-bearing lollipops, a chocolate heart and more. Maybe pick one up early as a special gift.

Have room in your bellies on Sunday because you can take Mom to brunch and dinner. Hotel Washington & Studio on Washington Island, has a takeout brunch, 10 am – 2 pm. Certain items on the menu are available only by pre-order, so be sure to secure your loaf of chocolate babka soon.

Alexander’sin Fish Creek, is taking orders until 12 pm on Saturday for its Mother’s Day to-go brunch, which includes honey-glazed ham, Swedish meatballs, crème brûlée French toast, a bottle of champagne and so much more.

Glacier Ledge Restaurant and Bar and the Lodge at Leathem Smith will both have dine-in brunch options this weekend. The Lodge’s brunch will be offered buffet style, 10 am – 2 pm, and it will have a special to-go menu as well.

Remember that I told you to make room in your stomach? That was for good reason because moms eat for free on Mother’s Day at LURE in Sister Bay. Mom can choose a free entrée with the purchase of another entrée so that the two of you can enjoy the savings, or, I say, get your mom two dinners – one for the next day – because after all, doesn’t she deserve it?
