MAM Opens “Wildlife Biennial XVI”

“Ibis Meet-Up,” pastel, by Sandra Place.

The exhibition “Wildlife Biennial XVI” opens June 1, with a public wine and appetizer reception from 5 – 6:30 pm. Many of the artists from across the state will be present to view the show and talk with visitors. Thirty-eight Wisconsin artists accepted the museum’s invitation to explore animal life around the world. Their work includes paintings, metal and stone sculpture, carvings, drawings and sculpted clay vessels.

A trend in this year’s show seems to be a view of life close to home, with many works featuring birds and animals found in backyards and nearby fields. Birds of all kinds dominate the scene.

The following Door County artists are included in the exhibit: Pete Bosman, Mary Bosman, Jan Comstock, Todd Copet, Malin Ekman, Emery Krueger, Jeffrey Olson, Gary Orthober, Mike Orthober, Sandra Place, Tom Seagard and Clyde K. Smith.

Internationally honored Wisconsin carver Gary Eigenberger will discuss his work at a museum talk on June 13 at 10:30 am.

The exhibition continues through July 23. The museum is located at 107 S. 4th Ave., Sturgeon Bay, within the Door County Library. Museum hours are Monday 10 am – 8 pm, and Tuesday through Saturday 10 am – 5 pm. For more information visit millerartmuseum.org.
