Manners Matter: To Tell or Not to Tell?

Dear Mary Pat,

I’m fairly certain that I saw my friend’s fiancé walking with another woman. The only thing is, I’m not 100 percent sure … More like 99 percent sure. It didn’t look platonic at all, and I’m not sure if I should say anything. Is it right to keep my mouth shut when I think he might be cheating on her?

Dear To Speak or Not,

I know that you want to alert your friend to a potential issue with her relationship, but it’s not a good idea. Because you can’t be certain, you shouldn’t say a word. If he’s cheating on her and he’s walking around with this other woman, chances are good that your friend will find out the next time or even witness it herself. It’s a small community, and things don’t stay quiet for too long around here. For your friend’s sake, I hope it works out well.
