Meteor Watching, Habitat Healers, Hikes at Crossroads

Join the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society on Aug. 13, 8:30 pm, for stargazing and Perseid meteor-shower watching at the Astronomy Campus, 2200 Utah St. in Sturgeon Bay. Society members will be there to help visitors enjoy the beauty of the night skies. Take lawn furniture, blankets and snacks.

Habitat Healers will continue their land-restoration efforts at Crossroads at Big Creek on Aug. 14, 9:30-11:30 am, and they welcome volunteers of all ages to help. Instructions, equipment, gloves, cookies and lemonade will be provided. Wear clothing and footwear that can get dirty and wet. Meet at the workshop/nursery just beyond the main-campus parking lot.

Join the one-hour hike at Ida Bay Preserve on Aug. 15, 1 pm, to see the hemlock forest and some meadow areas. Meet at the parking lot at 1195 Canal Road. 

Or, try out the Forest Trail hike of about an hour on Aug. 15, 4 pm, to see a variety of woodland habitats and learn how a forest ecosystem is truly a community. Meet at the Collins Learning Center.

Families are the focus of a wetlands program Aug. 17, 10 am. After a short demonstration, explore one of Crossroads’ wetland areas. Meet at the Collins Learning Center.
