Monarch Larvae

If you put your ear close to the Butterfly Weed in front of Greens N Grains in Egg Harbor last week, you could almost hear the incessant munching of 16 Monarch caterpillars on the single plant. We’ll be keeping an eye on the little critters as they shed their skin fives time and then turn to the chrysalis stage before emerging as full-fledged Monarch butterflies.

Butterfly Weed (asclepias tuberosa) is a species of milkweed. Along with Monarch larvae, hummingbirds and bees are also attracted to Butterfly Weed.
