Movie Event to Support Gibraltar Girls Basketball

The Gibraltar girls basketball program will host the Door County premiere of the documentary Alaskan Nets, produced by Chris Pratt, on Feb. 26, 10 am, at Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek. It’s the story of an Alaskan community whose love for basketball brings it together.

“The games that draw the biggest crowds are the best games and tend to be the most exciting games to play/coach in, and it’s never just parents and families in those cases,” said Devin Thomas, coach of the Gibraltar girls basketball team. “It’s neighbors and coworkers or friends of grandparents. It’s a positive thing to talk about, and it’s what makes high school activities so special. It’s something to rally around and a common entity to support. We would not be the program and the organization that we are without our community, and hopefully the excitement, entertainment and hope that we provide our community is equally as important to the relationship between community and school group/program/activity.”

In addition to the documentary, there will be a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and concessions. The movie does contain some mature content that references death and suicide.Tickets are $10, and all proceeds will support the team with uniforms, game-day apparel, team bonding events, meals and other program needs.
