Mr. Helsinki Welcomes Home Martinez Studio

It was a busy winter for Wence and Sandra Martinez. The couple was notified of their acceptance into the prestigious 2013 Smithsonian Craft Show in October and worked hard to finish new tapestries for their Door County show. Mr. Helsinki will host a “welcome back” reception for them on May 30, 5 – 7 pm.

“It was an amazing adventure to show at the Smithsonian. The big world out there welcomed us with open arms,” said Sandra.

Then there was Martha Stewart. The guest of honor at the Gala’s opening night event, she made the rounds of the artists’ booths. When it looked like her entourage was about to pass the Martinez booth by, she turned and said, “Wait, I have to see these.” She kept turning around in the booth, repeating, “Beautiful work, beautiful work!” as she snapped three cell phone shots!

“In the last five years I have been fortunate enough to have the Martinez’s work on the walls of Mr. Helsinki three times and by far this last show has been my favorite,” said Mr. Helsinki owner Chris Cote.
