Mystery Novel Focuses on Belgian History

Rebecca Derenne of the Belgian Heritage Center in Brussels will lead the next meeting of the UntitledTown PageTurners Book Club on Sept. 22, 6 pm, at St. Norbert College’s Mulva Library in De Pere. The group will discuss The Lace Maker’s Secret by Kathleen Ernst.

Greed, uncertainty and death become entangled in the mystery of a rare piece of Belgian lace. Curator Chloe Ellefson needs distraction from the unsettling family secret she’s just learned and hopes that a consulting job at Green Bay’s Heritage Hill Historical Park, where an old Belgian-American farmhouse is being restored, will be a relaxing escape. Instead, she discovers a body in a century-old bake oven. Her research suggests that a rare piece of lace made its way to nearby Door County with the earliest Belgian settlers – and someone is desperate to find it.
