Nasewaupee Preps for Revaluations

In need of an assessor able to do a revaluation of properties in the town, the Nasewaupee Town Board voted unanimously Oct. 19 to approve a five-year contract with Associated Appraisal Consultants of Appleton.

The contract includes performing maintenance assessment services from 2024 through 2028 for a total of $135,000, an average cost of $27,000 a year, and doing a full inspection reevaluation for $170,000.

The town’s current assessor, Action Appraisers, informed the town board in June that Nasewaupee, by state law, needs a reevaluation of properties by the end of 2025 because the town’s market values and assessed values differ by more than 10%.

The current assessor said it could provide maintenance assessment services, but not a reevaluation. The town bid the service and received two proposals. Both bids came in at close to the same cost over three years, but board members favored Associated over Accurate Appraisal in Menasha because Associated provided more detail in its proposal, offered a longer contract and had familiarity with handling assessment services nearby in Door County, such as the City of Sturgeon Bay and the Town of Sevastopol.

“It’s going to be tough if we have a firm that doesn’t work in our county,” said town supervisor and interim town clerk Jill Lau.
