New Bridge Thanks To Room-Tax Dollars

The dilapidated, unsafe-for-crossing bridge familiar to anyone who regularly hikes the Door County Land Trust’s Bayshore Blufflands in Sevastopol will have noticed the recent completion of a new crossing.

The Door County Land Trust (DCLT) received a $75,000 grant earlier this year from Destination Door County’s Community Investment Fund (CIF). The DCLT trail bridge project that crosses a wetland area was among the first CIF grant-project recipients. When the funding was announced in May, Emily Wood, DCLT’s executive director, said the dilapidated bridge that was there had forced people to tramp through the little creek area, damaging sensitive habitat.

The CIF grants favor tangible projects that can prove a benefit not only for visitors, but local residents.

Wood said back in May that DCLT was adding dollars to the grant amount for the project that was expected to cost around $125,000.
