New Sculpture Garden Debuts as Edgewood Begins 40th Season

Edgewood Orchard Galleries will be celebrating the start of its 40th season on Saturday, May 3. Gallery owners Nell and J.R. Jarosh are welcoming visitors back to the gallery for the 2008 season with an “Opening Day” reception. The public is invited from 10 am – 5 pm for refreshments and to see all of the new artwork.

Back by popular demand, this year’s opening exhibit will again be a group show featuring new work from nearly all of the gallery’s 145 artists. In addition to showing paintings and sculpture from many longtime gallery favorites, artwork from seventeen artists whose work is new to the gallery this year will also be included in the spring show.

New artists featured at Edgewood Orchard Galleries this season include painters Scott Lloyd Anderson, Karen Cook, Jacqueline Gnott, Shelby Keefe, Gretchen Klug, Tom Nachreiner and Tal Walton. New glass artists include Kathleen Elliot, Callahan McVay and Robert T. Mitchell. New woodworker Jeff Nelson and new jeweler Abra Gorby have also been added. Clay artists Nawal Motawi and Amy Zachariasen are now represented by Edgewood Orchard Galleries, as are sculpture artists Kathleen Caricof, Joseph and Georgia Pozycinski, Jonathan Shor and David K. Wright.

The Grand Opening of Edgewood Orchard’s new outdoor sculpture garden will also be take place on Saturday, May 3 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 am. Drivers passing the gallery grounds along Peninsula Players Road have witnessed the progression of the sculpture garden project, as J.R. has been working steadily on the dry-stacked stonewalls that define the garden’s perimeter and red granite paths.

The sculpture garden will feature a diverse selection of outdoor sculptures, including bronze and steel pieces from Edgewood favorite William Jauquet, bronze and polymer pieces from David K. Wright, carved limestone designs from Jim Johnson, carved granite and steel sculptures from Jonathan Shor, marble sculptures from Kathleen Caricof and various clay pieces from Door County’s Amy Zachariasen.

In response to visitor requests, Nell and J.R. have scheduled a number of special events for throughout the 2008 gallery season, including artists demonstrations and jewelry trunk shows.

Edgewood Orchard Galleries was opened on June 29, 1969 by Irene Haberland and her daughter Anne. The gallery is now in its third generation of family ownership, currently under the direction of Irene’s granddaughter Nell. The gallery is located at 4140 Peninsula Players Road, 1 block east of Highway 42 between Egg Harbor and Fish Creek. After opening on May 3, the gallery will be open daily from 10 am – 5 pm through Sunday, November 2.
