Obituary: Alan Francis Bell

Feb. 9, 1943 – March 6, 2024

Alan F. Bell, age 81, of Madison, died on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at St. Mary’s Care Center. He was born on Feb. 9, 1943, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Joshua and Catherine (McCormick) Bell.

Alan graduated from Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek in 1961. He attended St. Norbert College in De Pere for a year before transferring to UW-Madison where he graduated in 1966 with a B.S. degree majoring in History with minor in Business Admin. While at UW Madison he was an active brother of The Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity. He later earned an M.A. in Psychology and Employment Human Performance Counseling at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.

Alan served eight years as an Officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 — 1975. During those years his military duties took him to assignments at Loring AFB in Maine, Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, Osan AB in South Korea and Maxwell AFB in Alabama. After his Air Force tenure, Alan worked as Project Manager for the Wisconsin Board of Voc, Tech and Adult Education in Madison. In 1981, Alan went to work for the State of Wisconsin as Consulting and Senior Staffing Analyst, Recruiter, retiring in 2001. The following ten years he enjoyed working in Real Estate services. Throughout his career he enjoyed being on the adjunct faculty, Madison Area Technical College and Edgewood College.

Alan is survived by his son, Patrick (Rebecca) Bell; daughter, Tracy (Robert) Carmichael; four grandchildren, Robert B. Carmichael Ill, Eleanor B. Carmichael, Joshua P. Bell and Elizabeth N. Bell; and brother, Greg (Sandra) Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua and Catherine.

In keeping with Alan’s wishes, no services will be held.
