Obituary: Aurelia Ortiz Gonzales

Aurelia Ortiz Gonzales, 95, of Taube Road, Sturgeon Bay, died at home on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.

She was born September 25, 1926 in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of the late Miguel and Nasaria (Moreno) Ortiz. At a very young age, Aurelia worked with her family following harvest seasons from Texas to Door County each year. She married Ignacio Gonzales in Texas and moved her family here to Door County permanently in 1968.

Aurelia was employed for 25 years with Krist Foods in Sister Bay where she was a produce manager. Later, she worked for the Landmark Resort in Egg Harbor.

“Our mother was an amazing mom who loved gardening, even though she struggled to walk in past years, and having family gatherings. She was welcoming, nonjudgmental, and nice to all.” She loved her grandchildren so much. If you were in her home, you were treated like dear friends, as she said, “In my home there are no strangers.”

Aurelia will be missed by her seven children, Marie Gonzales, Jim Gonzales, both of Sturgeon Bay, Louis (Denise) Gonzales of Luxemburg, Pasquel Gonzales, Denise (Tim) Schulz, Augustine (special friend, Joan) Gonzales, all of Sturgeon Bay, and Sylvia (Sean) Billotte of Wrightstown; nine grandchildren, Tyler (Lucy) Gonzales and Brittany (David) Hupke, Payton Gonzales, Andrea (fiancé, Christopher Jorgenson) Butler, Kristen (fiancé, Jedidiah Hillsabeck) Schulz, Stephen Faustini, and Jacob Schulz, Leslie and Mikeal Billotte; six great-grandchildren, Bruce and Maria Gonzales, Wyatt and Elaina Hupke, Violet and Indigo Hillsabeck, Legend Billotte.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters-in-law, Gail Gonzales, and Mari Beth Jorns Gonzales.

There will be a celebration of her life with family and friends.
