Obituary: Eileen B. Slaby

Aug. 25, 1937 – March 2, 2022

Eileen B. Slaby, 84, of Algoma, died suddenly at home.

She was born in Algoma to Henry and Emma (Beard) Zimmerman and attended Algoma Elementary School and Algoma High School, graduating in 1955.

After high school, she attended beauty college in Green Bay and worked at the Flora Lee Shoppe in Algoma for several years before and after her marriage. On Sept. 13, 1958, she married James L. Slaby at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Algoma. Together they raised four sons: James, David, Mark and John.

Eileen was an avid golfer and had memberships at both Alaska and Northbrook for many years. She also enjoyed traveling to Florida with Jim on many golfing vacations.

She was a member of the Algoma Garden Club and she enjoyed gardening at home and at her son John’s home.

Eileen was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Quilting Group, St. Paul’s Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild and enjoyed going to the WELS missionary society conventions. She always had a strong faith in God.

Eileen is survived by her four sons, James; David (Sigrid), and their children, Sam (Lindsey) and Nate (Lyanne); John (Michele), and their children, Shauna and Sierra, all of Algoma; and Mark and his children, Margo (Calvin), Erik, Benjamin and Annika of Mount Dora, Florida; soon-to-be great grandson, Declan Leo; and one sister-in-law, Betty Zimmerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James, on Dec. 25, 1997; two sisters, Gertrude Heuer and Margaret (Gerald) Kramer; two brothers, Reiny (Arlane) Zimmerman and Russell Zimmerman.

Visitation will be Monday, March 7, 4-7 pm, at the Schinderle Funeral Home in Algoma, with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue Tuesday, March 8, after 9:30 am, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Algoma until the time of the service at 11 am, with Rev. Joel McKinney and Rev. John Moll officiating. Burial will be in Algoma’s Evergreen Cemetery.
