Obituary: Gordon Edward Bley

Gordon Edward Bley, 89, of West Jacksonport, fell asleep in the loving arms of his family and awoke in the arms of the Lord Wednesday morning, March 9, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society – Scandia Village in Sister Bay.

He was born September 7, 1926 in West Jacksonport, the son of August and Lydia Caroline (Herbst) Bley. Gordy attended school in West Jacksonport. He was a professional lumberjack and logged with Sperber & Krueger Lumber Co. out of Valders and later with Algoma Lumber Co. Gordy also operated his dairy farm on County Road T in West Jacksonport.

On May 20, 1950, he married Eunice Ione Herbst at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport where they were lifelong members. Gordy and Eunice were blessed with over 63 years of marriage. Eunice passed away December 13, 2013.

He loved visiting with his grandchildren, had a passion for horses and enjoyed gaming, hunting, and socializing.

Gordy’s memory will live on in the hearts of his three children, Lisa (Bob) Bieri of Jacksonport, Philip (Mary) Bley of West Jacksonport, Bradley Bley of Appleton; eleven grandchildren, Michael (Theresa) Bieri (and their children, Sienna, Hudson), Jason (Casey) Bieri (and their children, Luke, Carter, Ainsley), Lindsay (Nick) DeYoung (and their children, Jack, Frankie), Kelly (Adam) Nelson, Sadie (fiancé, Matt Ash), Annie, Andrew, and Lucy Bley, Aaron, Taylor, and Maxwell Bley; four siblings, Frank (Gloria), Dennis (Mary), and Lee Bley, all of West Jacksonport, Marcella Giesseman of Egg Harbor; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Kessen, JoAnne Herbst, both of Sturgeon Bay; the Bley families and friends.

He was welcomed Home by his parents; wife; three brothers, Wally (LaVerne), Nick (Lorna), and Curtis (Fran) Bley; four brothers-in-law, Gene Kessen, Don Giesseman, Myron and Sheldon Herbst; and nephews, Eugene Bley and Alvin Bley.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport with Pastor Peter Lindemann officiating. Gordy will be laid to rest in the church cemetery beside his wife, Eunice.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm., Saturday evening, March 12, 2016 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with a devotion to be held at 7:45 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church, Sunday afternoon, from 12:00 noon until the time of services.

Memorials may be given in Gordy’s memory for Zion Lutheran Church and School.
