Obituary: Helen ‘Janey’ J. MacNeil

Helen ‘Janey’ J. (Minahan) MacNeil died peacefully on Jan. 22, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Janey was born on March 20, 1941 to Robert and Helen Minahan in Green Bay, WI. She attended St. John’s Grade School, Green Bay East High School, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she met the love of her life, Douglas MacNeil. After moving to Milwaukee and taking a job at R.W. Baird & Co., Janey and Doug married on February 20, 1965. They raised their four children in River Hills, WI and spent their summers in Ephraim.

Janey leaves behind Doug, her husband of 52 years, and her children Cog (Marion) MacNeil, Tracy (Alby) Gallun, Michael (Beth) MacNeil and Amy (Devin) Wolf and her 12 grandchildren: Penn, Grace, and Charlie MacNeil; Fritz, Peter, Lucy, Robert and Gunnar Gallun; Reagan Freewalt; and Parker, Mac and Gus Wolf. She is also survived by her brother Bob (Judy) Minahan of Ft. Myers, FL, her sister-in-law Judy (MacNeil) Zacher of Columbus, GA, her brother-in-law Sandy (Ginny) MacNeil of Zirconia, N.C. and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Helen Minahan, her brother Michael Minahan, and her in-laws Cog and Antoinette MacNeil.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Jan. 28, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Lumen Christi Catholic Parish, corner of W. Mequon Rd and N. Range Line Rd, Mequon, WI. A reception celebrating Janey’s life will follow. A memorial service will also be held in Ephraim, WI this summer.
