Obituary: Jane Ellen Dietman

July 24, 1952 – Jan. 17, 2024

Jane Ellen Dietman, 71, died unexpectedly at her home in Fond du Lac, on Jan. 17, 2024. She was born July 24, 1952 to James and Dorothy Dietman in Kenosha. Jane grew up a few miles outside of Sturgeon Bay, graduating from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1970. Janie loved growing up on the bay and helping her parents with their family-run Wan-Na-Wak Cottages, where she spent summers with cousins and repeat customers who became family friends. She so loved ballet, playing the flute and set the state record for high jump her senior year.

She attended UW-Green Bay for a time and became a tender, loving and devoted mom in 1973. She worked in various fields spanning tourism, real estate and truck driving and never stopped helping out at Wan-Na-Wak until it closed in 2000. She always cheered on the Packers and the Brewers, was truly at peace in her gardens and listening to the birds and loved being on the water.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother Mike (Nancy) Dietman, son Justin (Nicole) Hoelscher, and two grandchildren, Henry and Greta. Her grandchildren were a great joy in her life and she always got down on the floor to play, even when it got harder to get back up. Through them she learned Magic the Gathering, more about youth hockey than you’d ever want to know, rejoiced in family games and was able to share her love of dance with her granddaughter. She was tremendously proud of them. Jane most of all was kind, never said a bad thing about others, and had a spirit of loving generosity that exceeded her means. May she be at peace and remembered with loving grace.
