Obituary: Marvin A. Beilfuss

Marvin A. Beilfuss, 89, of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, died October 30, 2016 while at Ministry Door County Medical Center with family at his side.

He was born March 13, 1927 in Shawano, the son of Ewald and Margaret (Strutz) Beilfuss. Marvin attended school in Shawano and grew up working on the family farm in addition to working various jobs for neighbors. He met Beatrice Koeller while at a husking bee, and they were married on September 22, 1946.  Marvin was initially employed at a factory in Shawano and operated a filling station in Cecil until 1952 when he and his family moved to Sturgeon Bay. Over the next 37 years, Marvin worked tirelessly in the shipyards and also as a dairy farmer, eventually owning and operating his own dairy farm two miles north of Carlsville, in the Town of Egg Harbor on Highway 42. He even owned and operated his own bar in Brussels (now the Brussels Countryside Diner).

Marvin served on the Door County Board of Supervisors, was a constable for the Town of Egg Harbor, and was later deputized a sheriff’s deputy by Sheriff Hollis Bridenhagen. 1992, Marvin and Beatrice moved to their retirement home on Canal Road. He enjoyed traveling, picking blackberries, and going on early morning fishing trips with Beatrice. First and foremost in Marvin’s life, though, were his faith, family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Beatrice of Sturgeon Bay; eight children, Joan (Bob) Somers of Elkhorn, Jack (Nancy) Beilfuss of Kaukauna, Jerry (Renate) Beilfuss of Green Bay, Jeff Beilfuss of Sturgeon Bay, Marvin Beilfuss, Jr., Jon (Joan) Beilfuss, both of Egg Harbor, Judy (Don) LeMieux of Sturgeon Bay, and Jan (Dawn) Beilfuss of Clarksville, TN; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Elaine Gueths and Gerald (Pat) Beilfuss; many nieces and nephews; and friends.

He is reunited with his parents; two sons, Joel and (baby) Jay Beilfuss; and four siblings, Ruth Sherf, Allen (Adeline) Beilfuss, Jim Beilfuss, and Harry and (Wilma) Beilfuss.

Marvin’s life will be honored with a funeral service held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport with Pastor Peter Lindemann officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Nicolet Memorial Gardens in the Town of Scott (Green Bay).

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Tuesday morning, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Memorials may be given for Zion Ev. Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. (Mention the Marvin Beilfuss tribute account for donations sent directly to the Alzheimer’s Association).

A heartfelt thanks goes out to Pastor Lindemann, Dr. Palines, the Ministry Door County Medical Center nursing staff, Unity Hospice, the special people who attended our dad at Golden Living Center-Dorchester, and Erik Huehns from Huehns Funeral Home, for all of your care, guidance, and support.
