Obituary: Philip J. Gordon

May 22, 1953 ~ April 24, 2023

Philip J. Gordon, 69, died after a lengthy illness on Monday, April 24, 2023.

He was born May 22, 1953 in Sturgeon Bay, son of Howard and Dolloris “Marge” (Miller) Gordon. Phil graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1971 and the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay in 1975. After graduating, he was a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He later joined his father working at Gordon’s Electric and Refrigeration and in 1984, he became the owner of the business until his retirement in January of 2020. Phil and Joyce Thomson were united in marriage at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena on August 5, 1978. He was a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, where he served as an usher and attended Bible Study. In Phil’s earlier years, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and hunting. He was a member and sponsor of Ducks Unlimited.

Phil is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce; two sons, Mark (Danielle) Gordon of Mukwonago and Michael (Katie) Gordon of Hartland; and four grandchildren, Harrison and Elyse Gordon of Mukwonago and Sam and Max Gordon of Hartland. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law, Eileen Shallow, Mary Lynn Shallow, and Lois Thomson of Lena; brothers-in-law, Richard Thomson of Woodbridge, VA and David (Mary Kay) Thomson of Lakewood; and several nieces and nephews.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marge Gordon; sole brother, Daniel Gordon; father- and mother-in-law, Earl and Alice Thomson; brothers-in-law, Donald Thomson, Roger “Buffer” Shallow, and Kenneth “Dewey” Shallow; and sister-in-law, Marsha Thomson.

Phil’s life will be celebrated during a funeral service on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay with Pastor Joel Sauer officiating. He will be laid to rest during a private committal service at Bayside Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Phil’s name to St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
