Organizations Collaborate on Aug. 17 Safe Kids Day

The third annual Safe Kids Day is scheduled for Aug. 17, 10 am – 2 pm, at the Door County Fairgrounds in Sturgeon Bay, and this year, it’s partnering with Emergency Vehicle Fun Day

Fun activities and more than 20 educational booths will be operating during this free, interactive fair. Food and refreshments, including root beer floats, will be available for purchase to benefit local 4-H programs. No registration is required.

The Eagle Three helicopter will land at 11 am. Door prizes will be drawn at 1 pm. Emergency-vehicle sirens will be demonstrated at 1:30 pm. Many emergency vehicles will be on hand to educate families about safety during emergencies.

The Door County Silent Sports Alliance will offer a bike rodeo, so families should take their bikes to go through an obstacle course that teaches bike safety. They will also have free helmets and helmet fittings.

The Department of Natural Resources will display boats and ATVs; the U.S. Coast Guard will display its large boats and Coastie; the Wisconsin State Patrol will cover seatbelt safety; and Door County Emergency Management will discuss disasters and how to prepare for them.
