PenArt Residency Program Brings In Painter, Sculptor

Peninsula School of Art’s (PenArt) newest artists-in-residence, Sarah Stellman and Emily McBride, began their six-week sessions at the Fish Creek art school on March 28.

Stellman’s paintings explore sentimentality, remembered images and special things. Stellman lives and works in Austin, Texas, but she has exhibited her art throughout the country. One of her recent solo shows was at R&D Gallery in Madison, Wisconsin.

McBride’s luminous glass forms are created through repetitive and meditative processes. Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, McBride was named one of 10 artists in the nation for the Emerging Artist Cohort with the American Craft Council in 2022.

Visitors can learn from a former PenArt artist-in-residence, Heather Nuber, during Family Art Day on April 20, 9 am – 12 pm.

Nuber makes brightly colored jewelry and sculptures from unusual materials like paracord, rope, fabric and found objects. Participants can view her work in the gallery for inspiration, then head to the classroom to make their own creations.

The workshop is free for families with children ages 3-17. PenArt is located at 3900 Cty F in Fish Creek.
