Pendants with Purpose

Patricia Shoppe, a women’s boutique in Egg Harbor, teamed up this summer with Chicago jewelry designer Sophia Forero to create a limited edition cherry blossom necklace that represented Door County.

The necklace was offered during a trunk show with the artist at Patricia Shoppe in July and was also available for order throughout the month of August.

Forero and her husband handcrafted this silver piece to give homage to Door County. The pendant is created by first carving a cherry blossom out of wax, then hand casting into fine silver. The necklace is brimming with symbolism, the white fresh water pearls were inspired by the stone beaches around Door County, the faceted aquamarine stone evokes water, and the cherry blossom pendant is a classic image of Door County.

“We are delighted to create pieces that give back to the community,” states Forero. “The most important part of making our clients feel beautiful is that the piece itself is part of a bigger picture of giving.” The necklace sold for $130, and 20 percent of sales went to Write On, Door County.

Sales of the necklaces ended Sept. 1 and 27 pieces were sold in all. Patricia Shoppe donated $702 to Write On, Door County. A matching grant through Write On made this fundraising event a $1,404 donation.

“We are so delighted at how this went that we definitely plan to do more things like this,” said Erin Bosman, owner of Patricia Shoppe. “In fact, the necklace was so popular, people are still asking for it. We are considering rereleasing it around the holidays for a limited time.”
