Peninsula School of Art Lights Up the Night

Iron pour participants will cast tiles with molten iron.

The glow of molten iron and brilliant light trails fuel the evening events on Oct. 12 at Peninsula School of Art. From 4 – 8 pm, the school hosts its fourth annual Iron Pour Benefit in support of its art education programs. At the same time, the international light painting exhibition “Night Lights” opens in the Guenzel Gallery. Both events celebrate the drama of light in the darkness with hands-on activities for the public.

For a fee of $15, iron pour participants of all ages may create an iron tile from a sand-and-resin mold. At the same time, a free light painting booth set up in the gallery will provide simple light tools, camera gear for long exposures, and instructions on how to create a light painting. iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users may also download the inexpensive LightBomber app created by Night Lights featured artists, Michelle McSwain and Ryan Warnberg of MRI Lightpainting (NY), to make a light painting on their own devices.

Those attending may enjoy seasonal refreshments, live music by Jess Holland and Nick Hoover, and “Night Lights” – all at no charge. Peninsula School of Art is located at 3900 County F in Fish Creek. For more information call 920.868.3455 or visit peninsulaartschool.com.
