Peninsula State Park Offers Birding Workshop

Are you a beginning birder, or do you simply need a warbler refresher? Then come to Get Ready for Warblers, a special spring workshop at Peninsula State Park.

You’ll learn to identify at least five park warblers, review E-bird, a new web site sponsored by Cornell University of Ornithology, discover how to become “bird certified,” and spend about 30 minutes birding Weborg Point. The workshop is offered Saturday, April 19 and Thursday, April 24, from 1 – 3 pm each day. This workshop utilizes a brand new warbler CD developed by DNR Biologist Bill Volkert, stunning photos by Paul Blanchard, nests, and stuffed birds. Participants will receive a Redstart patch and training pamphlet for a $3 donation. Interested birders may also purchase Volkert’s warbler training CD, redstart caps, and other bird merchandise. All proceeds benefit the park’s nature education program. Bring your own binoculars and field guides if you have them. The warbler workshops are suitable for adults and youth ages ten and up.

Meet at park headquarters. Please pre-register by phoning 920.854.5976 or emailing [email protected].
