“Piano Teaching in the 21st Century” Seminar at Björklunden

From Aug. 28 – Sept. 2, 2016, Lawrence University’s Björklunden is offering the seminar “Piano Teaching in the 21st Century” with Lawrence University Conservatory piano department members Catherine Kautsky, Michael Mizrahi and Anthony Padilla. This special seminar is intended for pianists and piano teachers and will take place at Björklunden’s lodge, just south of Baileys Harbor.

Kautsky, Mizrahi and Padilla will join forces to present a week of performances, lectures, master-classes, and lessons aimed specifically at the needs of piano teachers. Instructors address pedagogical issues like “How to Practice Effectively,” and “Skillful Pedaling.” There will be new ideas on community outreach for musicians, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and pointers on creative speaking as well as playing. Instructors will also offer repertoire enhancement seminars on topics like “Teaching Music from the 21st Century,” “Debussy for Young Pianists,” and “The Easier Virtuoso Literature.” Teachers may perform in master-classes presented by all three faculty members and four-hand duos will be encouraged and coached.

Registration is open, and interested pianists/teachers should register early. For more information about this special seminar, visit lawrence.edu/s/bjorklunden/piano-teaching-seminar, call 920.839.2216 or email [email protected].
