Pioneer Girls Defeat Wolves in Double Overtime

Sevastopol’s girls basketball team needed two overtimes Tuesday to win for the second time this season against Algoma, 36-35.

The game was tied at 31-31 at the end of regulation and 35-35 after the first overtime. A free throw by Libby Ash accounted for the only scoring in the second extra session and lifted the Pioneers to victory. 

Naomi Rikkola led Sevastopol with 17 points, followed by Kayla Ranly with 13 points.

The Wolves were led by Ryley Zimmerman and Sierra Slaby with 11 points apiece.

The Pioneers improved to 9-2 in the Packerland Conference and 14-3 overall going into Saturday’s league game at home against Gibraltar.

Sevastopol is now a game out of first place in the Packerland after conference leader Kewaunee lost for the first time this season on Tuesday against Oconto, 54-47. The Pioneers face the Storm on Feb. 6 at Kewaunee.
