Pioneers’ Press Clips Clippers in Girls Hoops

The full-court pressure defense of Sevastopol’s girls basketball team was too much for Sturgeon Bay to handle Friday night.

The Clippers, who committed multiple turnovers, didn’t score a field goal until less than four minutes remained before halftime.

The Pioneers put in the game’s first 15 points and led 43-10 at the break en route to a 67-14 Packerland Conference victory.

Sevastopol’s top-three scorers exceeded or tied Sturgeon Bay’s team total. Naomi Rikkola tallied a game-high 22 points with four threes. Kayla Ranly added 15 points and made three baskets behind the arc. Libby Ash scored 14 more with four three-pointers.

Dasha Yeltysheva led the Clippers with eight points.

The Pioneers, who improved to 8-2 in the conference and 13-3 overall, return to action Tuesday with a league game at Algoma.

Sturgeon Bay (2-8, 4-12) next hosts a league game Tuesday against Southern Door.
