Poet Karla Huston to Launch Library Readings

A warm Door County welcome goes to Karla Huston, prize winning poet from Appleton who will launch the annual April poetry readings at the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Branch of the Door County Library April 4 at 11:30 am.

Karla Huston is the winner of the 2003 Main Street Rag Chapbook Contest and the author of Flight Patterns (Main Street Rag Press, 2003), Virgins on the Rocks (Parallel Press, an imprint of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries, 2004), Catch and Release (Marsh River Editions, 2005), as well as a new chapbook forthcoming from Centennial Press. Her poems and reviews have been published in periodicals and online at 5 A.M., One Trick Pony, Poet Lore, Rattle, Chiron Review, Eclectica, Blackbird (www.blackbird.vcu.edu), Poetry Southeast (www.poetrysoutheast.com), SOFTBLOW (www.softblow.com) and many others.

Huston received the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation Student Short Story Award and the Douglas Flaherty, Sr., Memorial Poetry Award. She holds a Jade Ring for poetry and fiction from Wisconsin Regional Writers’ Association. In 2005, she earned an honorable mention in the Council for Wisconsin Writers Lorine Niedecker contest.

In addition to writing residencies from the Ragdale Foundation in 1998 and 2002, Karla attended the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference in Middlebury, Vermont, in 2006 and 2007. She also teaches poetry writing workshops and reviews poetry books.
