Poet Laureate Marilyn Taylor is October’s Dickinson Poet

Marilyn L. Taylor will read new and selected poems at the Emily Dickinson Poetry Series on Oct. 10 at 7 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County. A complementary reception will follow the reading and open mic session.

Taylor is the 2009 and 2010 Poet Laureate of Wisconsin and 2004 and 2005 of Milwaukee. She taught poetry and poetics for fifteen years at UWM and facilitated poetry workshops, readings and presentations throughout the state and at many venues across the country. She was recently appointed to the advisory board of the Low-Residency MFA Program at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.

Taylor is the author of six collections of poetry, the most recent of which, Going Wrong, was published by Parallel Press in 2009. Her poems and essays have also appeared in many anthologies and journals including The American Scholar, Poetry, Measure, Able Muse, Think Journal, and Ted Kooser’s “American Life in Poetry” column. She has also been awarded first place in contests sponsored by The Atlanta Review, Dogwood, Passager, The Ledge, and the GSU Review poetry journals. She is currently a Contributing Editor for The Writer magazine.

On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a reading by a renowned local or regional poet followed by an open mic.
