Poetry & Photoshop Seminars at Bjِrklunden

From July 28 through Aug. 3, Lawrence University’s Björklunden is offering these seminars: “The Experience of Poetry: Telling the Dancer from the Dance” with Liz Cole and Tim Spurgin and “Enhancing Your Digital Photographs with Photoshop” with Phil Krejcarek.

Each participant of “The Experience of Poetry” will bring one or two favorite poems to work on in class, with guidance from the co-instructors. Then, those who feel brave enough will put together a short program to share with other classes.

Cole has had a long acting career on the professional stage, including television guest-star appearances on Seinfeld, ER, Las Vegas and others. She originated the leading role in Margaret Edson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama WIT, for which she received the L.A. Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Outstanding Performance.

Spurgin is associate professor of English and the Bonnie Glidden Buchanan Professor of English at Lawrence University.

In “Enhancing Your Digital Photographs with Photoshop,” individuals will learn how to use Photoshop to enhance and apply effects to their digital photographs. Assignments will include such techniques as: color and exposure correction, pasting one photograph into another, incorporating text, creating digital panoramas, montages, applying filters and special effects. This seminar is designed for beginner and advanced students.

Krejcarek is professor of art at Carroll University and chairman of the department of visual and performing arts, where he has taught for the past 36 years. He is the author of An Introduction to Digital Imaging.

Seminar classes meet weekday mornings and some evenings at Björklunden’s lodge, just south of Baileys Harbor. Each seminar includes meals prepared by Björklunden’s resident chef.
