Proposed State Park Hunting Area Maps

The Sporting Heritage Bill, Wisconsin Act 168, opened hunting, fishing and trapping for all seasons in state parks starting in 2013.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) can choose to prohibit hunting and trapping within 100 yards of a “designated use” area, like campgrounds, trails and picnic areas, but a majority of Natural Resources Board members must approve a motion to prohibit hunting in other park areas.

The DNR has published maps of proposed hunting areas and seeks public input for the proposals. Public listening sessions will take place throughout the state, and attendees can comment on the implementation of the bill and proposed maps. Comments can be emailed to [email protected] or sent to Wisconsin State Parks – Act 168, PO Box 7921, Madison, WI 53707-7921
