Quilted Fish Sends Aid to Victims in Tennessee Wildfires

Beginning this week, the Quilted Fish, 403 Navarino St., Algoma, will open its doors from 10 am-2 pm daily through Dec. 15 to all who wish to aid in the effort to send pillowcases and quilts to the victims of the Gatlinburg, Tenn., wild fires. Owner Mary Stewart encourages quilters and sewers of all levels to bring their sewing machines to stitch blocks or quilt tops (finished or unfinished) at the shop, where Mary will employ her specialty long-arm sewing machine to complete the quilts and send to Gatlinburg. Non-sewers who would like to contribute to the cause may donate money to be used for postage to send the quilts down south. The Quilted Fish is also accepting fabric donations. A recent addition to downtown Algoma, the Quilted Fish is a specialty shop that provides quilt finishing using a Gammill Classic Long Arm machine. The shop also sells selected fabrics, books, cards, jewelry and gift items. One of their popular requests is t-shirt quilts, a quilt created from a personal collection of memorable t-shirts. More information can be found at Quilted Fish Facebook page or by calling 262.749.1824.
