Remember to Train in Open Water for Triathlon

Door County Triathlon organizers are reminding athletes competing in the 2016 competition to practice in the open water of Lake Michigan.

Last year, wavy conditions prevented 50 Half Iron competitors, in a field of 950, from completing the swim. Find opportunities to practice swimming in open water so this doesn’t happen to you. Ideally, go to Murphy Park, where the Door County Triathlon takes place, and train in the water at least a few times. Even if Door County or other corners of Lake Michigan aren’t readily accessible, find a lake or other body of water.

Here are some upcoming free swim training opportunities at Murphy Park: Lifeguard Training Nights – June 30, July 6 & 12 from 5 – 6 pm; and Door County Triathlon Training Day, presented by Green Bay Multisport, on July 2 at 8 am.
