Rick O’Farrell Named DCMM Executive Director

After a nationwide search, the Door County Maritime Museum has selected Rick O’Farrell to be its next executive director. A former naval officer, O’Farrell brings extensive experience in the management of nonprofit organizations, along with a love for the sea and its lore, to his new position at the helm of the Maritime Museum.

“I am very excited to be joining the Door County Maritime Museum,” said O’Farrell. “I view this as my dream job, combining my love of the maritime and my interest in history.”

Originally from Bay City, Mich., O’Farrell graduated from Michigan State University with a BS degree in resource development. He went on to earn his MBA in marketing. O’Farrell entered the U.S. Navy after graduation, serving as a supply officer on several naval commands, including the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) and the nuclear-powered submarine USS Atlanta (SSN-712). He rose to the rank of lieutenant commander while in service.

“It is wonderful to see a fellow member of the nation’s sea services taking the helm at DCMM,” said present Executive Director Bob Desh, a retired Coast Guard officer. “I look forward to watching Rick guide the museum to new heights.”

O’Farrell began work as the executive director at the Door County Maritime Museum on Nov. 3.
