Ridges Hosts Natural Christmas Dec. 13

Those seeking a less hectic way to celebrate the season can choose from a number of programs and activities at The Ridges Sanctuary throughout December.

On Dec. 6 at 10 am, volunteer naturalists will lead a wreath-making workshop. The workshop fee of $10 includes materials for one wreath. Swags and additional wreaths are $5 each. Call 920.839.2802 to reserve clippers, frames and greens. Meet at The Ridges Workshop, 8288 Cty. Q in Baileys Harbor.

“The wild success of our Natural Christmas festivities prompted us to schedule an additional workshop,” explained Jane Whitney, Ridge board member and co-creator of the Natural Christmas event. “Wreath-making will still be part of our Natural Christmas activities, but we hope this added date will allow more people to participate.”

Natural Christmas will be held on Dec. 13, 3 – 6 pm. Visitors can gather at the cabins to help themselves to hot cocoa, cider and cookies while listening to seasonal Renaissance music performed by Dusky Wing or circle round a blazing campfire complete with marshmallows for toasting and chestnuts for roasting. There will also be guided hikes through the twilight forest end on the luminaria-lined Range Light boardwalk where the lantern room of the Upper Range Light is open for viewing. Admission is free.

Bird lovers of all ages can participate in the National Audubon Society’s Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 14. The Ridges is looking for volunteer counters in the Ephraim and Northern Door Count Circles. Those interested in participating should contact Brian Forest at 920.839.2802 or [email protected] to receive a data form. For more information call 920.839.2802 or visit RidgesSanctuary.org.
