Ryan Urged to Lead on Conservation Fund

As the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) expiration looms on Sept. 30, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters launched a digital video campaign aimed at encouraging citizens to urge Speaker Paul Ryan to be a leader, reauthorize the LWCF permanently, and protect the public places both he and his constituents enjoy.

The campaign includes two videos distributed via social media channels. One highlights the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and the LWCF’s role in maintaining and expanding it. The other explores the City of Wisconsin Rapids’ commitment to public lands and the benefit to small business owners there.

It also includes a letter to Ryan that makes it easy to weigh in on this crucial conservation issue. At the end of the campaign, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters will deliver the letter, which already has more than 500 signers, to Speaker Ryan.

Executive Director Kerry Schumann had this to say about the LWCF reauthorization:  “Not only does the LWCF protect and enhance the grand places we love here in Wisconsin like the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, it also drives small projects like a city park or a riverbank restoration. These projects create economic engines in communities across the state. Plus, it comes at no cost to taxpayers. We call on Speaker Paul Ryan, and all of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation, to permanently reauthorize the LWCF before it expires onSept. 30.”
