Sam Dekker, Olivia Harlan Ask for Donations in Lieu of Wedding Gifts

Badgers basketball star-turned NBA player Sam Dekker and ESPN reporter Olivia Harlan will tie the knot on July 14 in Door County, and in lieu of wedding gifts, the couple is asking family, friends, and fans to donate to Children’s Cancer Family Foundation (CCFF).

The funds will help the organization fulfill its mission of serving families as they travel the difficult path of a pediatric cancer diagnosis. CCFF organizes fun-filled events to lift families’ spirits and provides financial assistance to lighten cancer’s burdens.

The couple is encouraging the public to give as well, promising autographed thank you cards to anyone who makes a donation of $50 or more to CCFF.

“Northeast Wisconsin is home and so special to us—where our families live, where we spend the off season, and where we will get married.” Harlan said.  “The people of this great state and area are what make it special. In celebrating our marriage, we’re looking to give back to this amazing community. We’re asking friends, family, and fans to help us lessen the financial pain of families in the community dealing with the seemingly insurmountable challenge of pediatric cancer.”

Philanthropy has always been a cornerstone of Dekker and Harlan’s relationship. The couple has been CCFF supporters since 2014, spending time with many CCFF families over the years.

“Sam and Olivia have helped many of our CCFF families create family memories that will last a lifetime,” said Sarah-Beth Janssen, president and cofounder of CCFF. “Their kind hearts and genuine nature have made Strike Out Cancer Day a must-attend event for our families. Their generosity and impact doesn’t stop there; they’ve participated in many CCFF fundraisers, which help us provide financial assistance to local families battling pediatric cancer. They’re never looking for recognition for their efforts; they simply want to make a difference.”
