Sandra Martinez Exhibits New Works at St. Norbert College

Sandra Martinez is presenting an exhibition of new works, Between the Lines: Sandra Martinez, at the Bush Art Center Galleries in the Baer Gallery at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Feb. 25 to March 29. The gallery will close March 16-24 for spring break. An opening reception will be held Feb. 28, 5-7 pm, and Martinez will give a gallery talk the following day, March 1 at 12 pm.

In this body of work, Martinez pushes her symbolist imagery into the third dimension for the first time by using shadow forms inspired by Haitian cut-outs. Many paintings are completed on a scale that she usually reserves for weaving preparation. Martinez uses a variety of nontraditional materials in this latest work, including Tyvek, parchment-skin documents and 18th- and 19th-century book pages. The exhibition also includes Martinez Studio weavings that she designed.
