Scandia Creating Wildflower Garden

John Stiefel, a co-founder of Wild Ones of Door County and a resident at Scandia Village in Sister Bay, is converting a 1.5-acre area of lawn to an area of wildflowers. He and fellow residents started planting last fall and are looking for help to plant 100-plus native plants this May. In preparation, Stiefel is offering a series of programs. On Feb. 23, 1:30-3 pm, he will present a program on how to separate wildflower seeds from their pods to prepare them for “snow seeding.” On March 9, 1:30-3 pm, Karen Newbern will present “Bugs Are Our Buddies,” a program explaining why we need insects, butterflies and moths and how to attract them to our yards. Both programs will take place in the Friendship Room at Scandia Village. If you are interested in either program and/or the May planting, call Stiefel at 920.839.5016.
